New pug!
We brought a pug brother for Brutus home today ... we’ve named him Buddy, in memory of Diosa’s mum. He’s 4 months old, and *very* much a puppy
Full of energy, full of beans and driving “old” Brutus nuts already!
We’ve pretty much given them a full run this evening, once they had food. They needed to sort their pecking order out, and work out who was boss. So far it seems to be Brutus. They will chase, fight, rough and tumble until Brutus is on top, then he holds Buddy for a few seconds, and it’s about the only few seconds Buddy can handle still so far! But it’s working, their socialising, and Brutus speaks his language,
We’ve picked him up a nametag and a harness, and topped up his puppy food. The first few nights he’ll spend in his carrier, before we decide if he can go up to his crate (we got him puppy pee pads, which should help him out). Obviously the goal is to house train him so we can trust him to be ok all day or night, like Brutus, so maybe he’ll learn from his big brother
I did want to share this with you though, a cute pic I just took. I’ll take more tomorrow I think!

First night
The first night in a new place is always weird for any dog, but Brutus was really good about it.
When we got in, we let him run around and learn about the new apartment, we let him explore, jump on things. We made sure he knew that barking at Nikki wasn’t allowed, and he responded well to it, and didn’t do it again (he did keep going back for a look though, she must be one ugly dog to him!). We gave him his water and a little bit of kibble so he knew where his bed was.
When it came to sleeping one of the things I’ve read is to make them confortable with their existing bed, but keep it close. So, we put him in his carry case and had it next to the bed.
It worked great. He settled right down, and only a couple of times in the night did he whimper, at which point I would roll over, put my hand through the bars, talk to him and he settled right down knowing he wasn’t alone. He slept almost all the way through, with no messes. We’ll probably do that for a couple more nights. Eventually we’ll pick him up a nice comfy doggy bed (probably on Monday), and we’ll see how he adapts to sleeping on that either in the bedroom or in the kitchen.
He had a nice walk this morning, and he’s gobbled down his kibble, he’s busy throwing the “whoomphing” hedgehog toy around the office right now, and chasing pieces of fluff around the floor

Meet the family
Hi, and welcome to the Pug blog of Smeg and Diosa.
We are both IT professionals living a little north of Boston, right by the Atlantic. We are picking up our first pug tomorrow, and this blog is going to tell our story
Brutus is a 1 and a half year old male fawn pug. His current owners don’t have the time to spend with him any more, and pugs need a lot of love and attention. With great reluctance he posted a message to a forum on http://www.pugs.com offering to give him up to a good home. His preference was for a home that already has pugs, but I figured nothing ventured nothing gained and dropped him an email.
Allow me to back track as to why we were looking on pugs.com in the first place
Several months ago we lived in Jamaica Plain, a town in Boston. We’d had a horrible day at work, we had worked long hours and the commute back home had taken over an hour. We needed beer. So off we went to the local liquer store to pick something up ... while I was picking some beer out, a guy carrying his pug wandered past. The little guy dived out of his dads arms and landed in Diosas, licking her face furiously.
That one puppy absolutely made our day. Stress vanished. The joy and laughter he brought from that stunt was amazing.
I think that got us hooked. Some how, without thinking about it, we ended up with a pug plushy toy and pug t shirts ... we started reading more about this little, so butt ugly they are cute dog. We couldn’t have one in our apartment at that point, but we wondered “what if” ...
Fast forward, we’ve moved out of Boston. Our apartment is large and our landlords huge dog lovers. We have a *home*, and not just a rented place to sleep.
We started pug hunting. We played with pugs we met in the streets. We fell even more in love with the breed.
Diosa has a long history of Rabbit rescue. She has fostered rabbits for many years, so the first place we looked was the local Pug rescue group, PRONE. We spoke to a nice lady there, told her what we were looking for and she seemed incredibly keen and eager to adpopt to us. We left her with references, and waited.
Nearly 4 weeks later, we’ve not heard anything. No calls have gone to our references. I fully understand that they are volunteer organisations, and I support everything they do, but 4 weeks without contact led us to keep looking.
And thats how we ended up with Brutus.
I feel for his current owner. It’s not easy giving up a dog you have so much love for. I hope he realises that Brutus will be getting a great home with us, and he will be welcome to keep in contact to check in on the little guy. It’s led us to starting this blog. I hope there will be many more posts to come!
